SLAC recognizes that hands on training and paradigm shift are very fundamental ingredients in development, as such training orientation is part of the long term strategy of the organization following the establishment of the development component of SLAC.
In June 2019 SLAC organized a self-evaluation exercise in which its partners (communities, and government officials) participated. The participants seriously requested SLAC to shift its innovation from a localised place to moving trainings into the community, including digital migration, but with a focus on community based hands on training for youth and women creating new community order.
In this sense the organization is evolving from the felt needs of the rural community served by SLAC projects.
In fact much of the SLAC curriculum is based on experiences gained by the organization carrying out the field projects and evaluation of hands on training through community action plan.
In February 2020, a needs assessment related to the relevance of establishing community based hands on training programme and possible training areas was carried out.

Experimental approach
SLAC implements the project using the Participatory community action plan and experimental approach, simply because gives people the opportunity to not only learn but to apply and practice new skills in a safe ecosystem.
Community entrepreneurs and Artisans take a fundamental lead in designing the training curriculum and this gives motivation and mindset change.
Lasting change is possible when people shift from being reactive circumstance to being creators of their own circumstances, people can create peace, make health, determine freedom, and determine their happiness. (Underlying structure of anything will determine its behaviour).
We achieve these through
Helping them to recognize that they have dynamic innate power and wisdom like anybody in the world, the have their own aspirations and they can create their own visions for the kind of life they want. Then they can work in their best areas of interest for themselves and others to create conditions for realizing what is most important for themselves.
Empowerment of women and youth is our core, how they can discover themselves. Women and youth participate in making a vision for their own families, village this helps them to rise above Traditional predispositions that are caused by, gender, political, tribal and religious differences and work together for ultimate goal. This participatory approach has immense results.
However, this is only possible if women and youth are able to recognize the fundamental differences they make in their own lives and others.
If they don’t trust that they can change themselves they start externalizing the problems like say I would be successful if it wasn’t dropping out of school. We emphasize for people to say I would be far if I trained for a skill in an enabling environment the positive change would happen.
People move from agonizing to the realization that they are actually change agents in their own lives. But our efforts to solve the low mind set change and a lot of unemployed women and youth won’t reach their maximum effectiveness unless we have the backing of the entire community.
The implementation is facilitated by the community 60%, and SLAC provides 40% through technical support, we work with volunteers who sacrifice 2 hours a week for each expert to support the organisation.
Together we shall go very far!
